That the assmbly has narrowly voted to pay local councillors who agree
not to stand at the next election for their seat up to £20,000

Many poor pensioner council tax payers will be left speechless at this
profligate waste of public funds. Particlarly when, having taken the
money, there is nothing to prevent them standing for re-election at a
later date (according to lib Dem Kirsty Williams)

Having read the news article. I think it will do better to pay younger
people a golden hello rather than pay off some councillors.

Younger people need to stay on the career ladder if they are to
progress, taking time out to be a councillor is a big step to the sort
of people that would benefit the community.

I see a load of young party activists taking up the places if the
older ones decide to go.

A golden hello might work but some parties have nobody to replace their
existing councillors. Mind you, I hear the odd football hooligan can
give it a go and get in, if they support the right party.

Well if all the other media and parties are too be believed, most of
these long standing councillors are corrupt so surely encouraging them
to leave would be a good thing?
