I noticed flak at the low turnout on the assembly elections from a few
of the English nat.s that like to post on Welsh NGs, recently, which of
course conveniently ignores the fact that voter participation in
Westminster related elections is in freefall.
A great deal of fuss was made in the English press regarding the Lib
Dems amazing win in the Brent east byelection. But did they really win?
Well if you regard getting less than 14% of the electorate voting for
you as a triumph then they did!
The fact is that slighly over 66% of the voters didn't turn out at
all.
I'd say apathy and disillusionment with the loon show that is
Westminster is the real winner.

Political Apathy is rife no matter where you refer to. To be closer to any
truth I would suggest that the majority of the public in general, simply
don't trust the politician whether they be Welsh , English or otherwise.

Look at the last Assembly elections with 62% showing no interest in the
Assembly whatsoever by simply not bothering top turn up and vote.

My very point,i.e. is that it is not apathy with regrd to the assembly
in particular, but to politics in general.
On the positive side the Assembly costs minute sums to run and
administer compared with the huge sums required to service the highly
impractical site Westminster is built on.
I think it should be moved to a more suitable greenfield site, perhaps
up on the north circular somewhere.
